Travel Insurance is required to participate on our trips

All guests are required to have travel insurance that includes trip interruption, trip delay, medical expense coverage and evacuation protection covering all applicable dates of travel with Luxury Gold and its partners. Purchasing travel insurance is a condition you must fulfill to participate in your trip. This insurance must cover: trip interruption, trip delay, emergency evacuation and medical expenses resulting from illness related to a pandemic event, such as COVID-19. Further, the insurance must include coverage for a medically-imposed quarantine such as a result of a guest in the group contracting COVID-19 while traveling with Luxury Gold and its partners. You are not required to purchase Travel Protection from Luxury Gold. If purchasing travel insurance not offered by Luxury Gold, see below for the minimum coverage levels.

Failure to procure travel insurance at the minimum coverage levels indicated below may result in cancellation of your reservation to travel with Luxury Gold and its partners.

Required Minimum Coverage Levels

To participate on any guided vacation Travel Insurance is now required. Travelers are not required to purchase travel insurance from Luxury Gold and are welcome to choose any travel insurance provider that meets the following requirements:

  • TRIP INTERRUPTION - Cost of Trip (excluding airfare)
  • TRIP DELAY - $150/day, $750 total per person
  • EMERGENCY EVACUATION - $100,000 per person
  • MEDICAL EXPENSES - $50,000 per person

Please be aware that most travel insurance providers require you to purchase your insurance coverage within a certain time frame from you paying your deposit (often times within 14 days). Guests are advised to research and purchase insurance as soon as possible after paying their deposit.

COVID-19 Travel Insurance FAQs

AM I COVERED IF I CONTRACT COVID-19?

You may be covered if you, a traveling companion or a family member contract COVID-19. If you contract COVID-19 after purchasing our Travel Protection Plan and are diagnosed prior to departure, the Trip Cancellation benefit may provide coverage if you need to cancel your trip. You will need to provide proof of illness from your doctor and a statement that you are medically unable to travel.

If you contract COVID-19 once you’ve already started your trip, the Trip Interruption benefit may provide coverage if you need to interrupt your trip because you or a traveling companion become ill. This, too, would require proof of illness from your doctor at the time of interruption.

If you become ill with COVID-19 while traveling, your medical expenses may be reimbursed, subject first to filing with your primary medical insurance company.

WHAT HAPPENS IF COVID-19 CAUSES ME TO BE QUARANTINED?

If you are quarantined prior to your trip, the Trip Cancellation benefit may reimburse your pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs. If you are quarantined during your trip, the Trip Interruption benefit may reimburse your missed, pre-paid trip costs and additional transportation costs to return home or catch up to your trip. If COVID-19 causes you to be quarantined, the Trip Delay benefit may reimburse additional expenses for transportation, meals and accommodations, as well as missed prepaid, non-refundable travel arrangements.

In each case, you would need to provide proof from a doctor or government authority verifying your need to quarantine, as well as receipts for any expenses incurred. Please note that a stay-at- home order or a shelter-in-place order, which does not require a strict isolation, is not considered a quarantine.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM AFRAID TO TRAVEL DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS?

The plan includes the Cancel For Any Reason feature, which will provide Future Travel Credits if you cancel at least 24 hours or more prior to your departure date. Future Travel credits are for 100% of any non-refundable Luxury Gold's travel arrangements and credits are valid for up to two years from date of issue. So while the fear of potentially contracting COVID-19 or the fear of being quarantined is not a covered reason to cancel your trip, the Cancel For Any Reason feature can allow you to experience your travel journey at a later time.

THE AREA I AM TRAVELING TO IN THE NEAR FUTURE HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY COVID-19. WILL I BE ABLE TO CANCEL MY TRIP AND BE REIMBURSED?

The plan includes the Cancel For Any Reason feature, which will provide Future Travel Credits if you cancel at least 24 hours or more prior to your departure date. Future Travel credits are for 100% of any non-refundable Luxury Gold's travel arrangements and credits are valid for up to two years from date of issue. Cancelling your trip solely because your destination has been affected by COVID-19 is not a covered reason for cancellation. To be reimbursed in cash, you would need to file a claim for one of the covered reasons under the plan. However, the plan includes the Cancel For Any Reason feature, which will allow you to experience a travel adventure at another time or destination. Please refer to your plan for full details.

THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT HAS ADVISED AGAINST NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL. AM I COVERED DUE TO THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT WARNING?

While there is no cash reimbursement under the plan for a travel advisory, the plan includes the Cancel For Any Reason feature, which will provide Future Travel Credits if you cancel at least 24 hours or more prior to your departure date. Please refer to your plan for full details.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE AIRLINE CANCELS MY FLIGHT DUE TO COVID-19?

If your trip has begun or if on your departure date your flight is delayed by the airline, or other Common Carrier, for 12 or more hours, the protection plan will reimburse travel delay expenses for items such as additional meals, accommodations and airfare. While we understand COVID-19 has caused a disruption in flights, there is no coverage under the insurance plan if the airline carrier has made the decision to cancel the flight in advance of your departure date. However, many airlines may be able to provide a refund for your flight or future travel credits should you decide to rebook at a later date.
