As the CEO of Insight Vacations and Luxury Gold\u00a0I am so pleased to announce that we have created the position of Sustainability Officer. This is a big step for us and goes to solidify our commitment to our HWTR strategy implementation over the coming years. I am so proud of the work that has already been done. Travel can and should be a force for good and as such we are formalising the role of Sustainability Officer to spearhead our efforts.<\/p>\n

Valerie\u00a0Furphy\u00a0\u2013 Sustainability Officer Insight Vacations and Luxury Gold<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

I started out my career as a nurse because fundamentally I am a\u00a0carer. Through my work post-Masters\u00a0in Public Policy\u00a0with development agencies,\u00a0it became clear that to raise populations out of poverty and develop in-country capacity sustainably,\u00a0one had to think more broadly than focusing solely on humans.<\/p>\n

This questioning sparked a passion for sustainability in me and it is one that I try and live by daily. I am delighted to be the Sustainability Officer for Insight Vacations and Luxury Gold because I am\u00a0100%\u00a0supported in implementing our How We Tread Right Strategy\u00a0(HWTR)\u00a0by our CEO Ulla\u00a0Hefel\u00a0B\u00f6hler. I remember some years ago, I suggested that we\u00a0swap\u00a0the materials we use for our\u00a0on-trip\u00a0collateral to\u00a0recycled\u00a0materials,\u00a0and where that wasn\u2019t yet\u00a0possible\u00a0we offset the carbon used in production.\u00a0Not only did\u00a0Ulla\u00a0say\u00a0yes,\u00a0but\u00a0she\u00a0didn\u2019t need much convincing!<\/p>\n

At Insight Vacations and Luxury Gold we understand that the Travel and Tourism sector is\u00a0a\u00a0powerhouse of global economy and a crucial part of community development and success. We are deeply committed to advancing the United Nations SDGs\u00a0through our MAKE TRAVEL MATTER\u00ae Experiences\u00a0because\u00a0we believe travel can \u2013 and must\u00a0\u2013\u00a0be a force for good.\u00a0We have been in\u00a0business\u00a0over 100\u00a0years\u00a0and it is our mission to continue that legacy. The only way we can\u00a0continue to take guests on vacations that delight and inspire\u00a0is to protect the people, places, and wildlife we visit.<\/p>\n

Two years ago, we were the first brands at The Travel Corporation (TTC) to launch a \u2018Global Volunteering Day\u2019, a day when as many of our global team as possible come together to give back to the communities where we live and travel.\u00a0On our inaugural Global Volunteering Day, we logged over 1,000 volunteer hours, supported grassroots organisations and connected with each other and our communities. It was a resounding success that we were ready to surpass in 2020,\u00a0but\u00a0unfortunately the Covid 19 pandemic had other plans for us.\u00a0That\u00a0said, I think the ongoing constraints of the pandemic highlight that our journey is a marathon and not a sprint. This year we\u2019ve\u00a0adapted our efforts and have logged many hours of volunteering\u00a0under\u00a0challenging circumstances\u00a0in support of our HWTR Goal #10, to complete 30,000 volunteer hours by 2025 across all TTC brands.<\/p>\n

Our commitment to our HWTR strategy is profound and its implementation will take dedication,\u00a0perseverance,\u00a0and innovation.
