A Passion to Uplift and Represent Indigenous People

Sarain Fox gives voice to indigenous people and their stories with the goal of preserving their culture and connecting all people. Born in Batchawana First Nation in Canada, Sarain is one of the country’s most prominent indigenous voices.
Two great examples where TreadRight is making a difference are the projects in Peru and Italy, where we support the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco and Laboratorio Giuditta Brozzetti. Both organisations are run by women to help keep their own traditions of weaving alive, teach visitors of their history, value and beauty, and employ locals to carry on the work.

Tourism can improve employment, especially for young women. It can give voice to those who are usually underrepresented. Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco
The Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco encourages a 10,000-year-old Andean textile tradition and provides support to the 500 individuals working in this heritage industry from the Cusco region. Meet Nilda Callañaupa Alvarez, president of The Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, and learn about her mission to preserve traditional weaving techniques and how she has succeeded in bringing weaving once more to the forefront of her community.

Laboratorio Giuditta Brozzetti
Discover the preserved heritage of textile loom-weaving at The Giuditta Brozzetti Cooperative, a weaver’s workshop situated inside a 13th century Franciscan church. Meet Marta, the workshop director, and learn how this medieval craft has been kept alive over the generations. The Giuditta Brozzetti Cooperative is one of the few remaining traditional frame hand weaving workshops in Italy, producing patterns reminiscent of Medieval and Renaissance textile traditions in Italy.
